i got my first camcorder, a jvc mini dv, about a month ago. so i know about doing the research, looking for best prices. there is almost too much to consider. i only had around £300 to spend, which didnt seem that much when i started looking through all that was available. so i just looked at what was in my price range and chose the one that had the best looking features.

i went to jessops, not the cheapest i know, and took some printouts from the net and tried out their pricematch. i managed to get the camcorder i was after for £300, about £100 cheaper than their instore price. i think i saw the same camcorder for the price i payed on offer in the paper today at either dixons/currys.

ill let those with more info on the subject tell you more, just thought id get the ball rolling.

Cheers Cirdan. I`ve got much the same budget as yourself but I am really spoilt for choice. Just trying to take the guess work out of things by looking for other peoples opinions, experiences :) .

thats right, i did some reading, might have even put up a post on here, but at the end of the day you have to have a cut off point where you go and buy one. thats what i did, i had been thinking about getting one on and off for a few years and thought if i dont do it know it could be another few years.

also you have to go on instinct or which one appeals to you.

i am doing a bit of editing on the pc with mine, if you intend to do the same just make sure it can connect to a pc, i use a firewire card, quite cheap, easy to install and with some decent software pretty good to use.

hope you get one soon.

Just bought a new camcorder myself. My tip would be to look for camcorders which are being discontinued. These usually have the biggest reductions as stock is cleared to make way for replacements. Sure, you`re buying an `old` model, but in this field, you`re always going to be playing catch up. Then just type the model number into google and forums like these and see who`s doing the best deals.
