Page 1 of TV/SKY sound thru AMP - connection advice required please.

Hi,
Just recieved my new Amp (Pioneer 796RDS) and speakers. Reading through the manual before going out to buy the required leads and I need some help.
What I want is to get the TV sound thru the Amp/Speakers without losing any digital sound that Sky transmits (if they do)? I am unsure how to do this. The Amp manual shows the option of connecting a TV Tuner or Satellite tuner to the amp using audio/video cords but NOT BOTH. Also, there are no video connections in the Sky Digibox and TV, dont know if this makes any difference.

Also, is there any advantage to connecting the the DVD/Amp with analogue audio leads as well as the Digital Coaxial/Optical connection as suggested in the manual?

I was informed that Sky wont let any manufacture put digital outputs on the set top boxes!

You are correct Bear, they won`t !

Lucky early subscribers to OnDigital got the option of a digital output on the first Nokia set top boxes, but nothing since. Shame really.

If you`re hooking your Sky box to your amplifier do what I do : 2 phono-phono plugs from the settop box (STB) to the amp, turn down the volume on your TV and listen to everything from Sky thru your amp. If you`re connecting the STB to the TV by way of a SCART, you`ll still get sound to your TV even when your amp is switched off (assuming you turn the volume up again after turning it down - hahaha!!!)

As for dual-connecting the DVD player - pah !!! I wouldn`t bother mate - a digital connection should be all you need, mate

I connected the Sky box to the Amp but only got sound from the 2 front speakers. I then connected the TV to the Amp (instead of Sky) and again I got sound from the 2 front speakers. If the sound also came from the centre speaker then it would be worthwhile. Am I doing somethink wrong? Which speakers should I be getting sound from?

Sounds like you need to change the mode from stereo to surround sound on your amp.

I think it`s more likely that the set-top box has an audio fault - it`s not a Pace box out of curiosity is it ?! I had some real fun with the OnDigiboxes made by Pace (I sent back three to OnD !!!)

I might as well take the opportunity to ask for more info.
My Amp has 1 output socket for the sub-woofer. My sub has 2 sockets. The instructions for the sub says that if the Amp only has one socket then do not use it. Instead, connect the sub to the main speaker connections and connect the main speakers to the sub. I did this and it works fine except I dont get a test signal thru the sub (I can get a test signal if I connect the sub to the amp using the 1 socket on the amp to 1 socket on the sub). The manual did not explain why you set the sub up like this. Does anyone know?
