I have a Sky + Box and a Sony DVD Home Cinema unit. I wish to connect the Sky + through the DVD so that I can enjoy surround sound from Sky Movies. Is this possible and what connection lead do I need to purchase?
For full Dolby Digital 5.1(6.1) sound you will need an optical lead from Sky+ to an input that is hopefully on the back of your home cinema system. All in ones tend to cut corners and this additional digital input may be missing,in which case you would have to make do with standard Pro-Logic surround, which only needs 2 phono connectors from the audio outputs on Sky+ to the inputs on your Sony.If you are really unlucky the Sony may have a coaxial digital input for use with other devices, but not Sky+
Thanks for your input it`s greatly appreciated. I have put an optical lead from the Sky + into my DVD player but when I turn on my DVD player and try to watch a disk I get sound but no picture, please help???
The Sony model is a DAVS500
Sound but no picture would point to an incorrect setting ,possibly on the tv.I remember setting up a Sony all in one(not sure if it was your model) and was dumbfounded to find there was no RGB output,or any Scart for that matter. The Video outputs were awful composite only phonos-can`t remember if it even had s-video.
Whatever your connections are, whether it be RGB,Video(composite) or s-video,make sure the socket on the tv is able to accept that type. Most tv scarts can accept RGB or s-video,not usually both on the same socket.A bit more detail on the Sony outputs and tv inputs would help if you are stil stuck
The optical output from the Sky+ should go to the amp NOT the DVD player, you have made a loop and that`s probably why your not getting any picture.
