Page 1 of SKY+ Problems - HELP!!
Hardware Forum
:/ Hi, I`ve just had Sky+ installed and within a couple of days had to call back the Engineer to replace the box as it made a continual buzzing noise. YET, the new box I have been given still makes a loud noise (sounds like a central heating boiler!) when the hard drive`s fan kicks in. Now I don`t know what to do?? - Anyone else having these problems with their Sky+ box or is it me ????
Mine only makes a faint buzzing noise (which I assumed was the hard drive), but nothing like as loud as a central heating boiler.
If the noise is coming from your fan, then is your Sky+ box getting too hot for some reason (e.g. it`s next to a radiator, or too close to the TV)
If this isn`t the problem then I`d keep getting the Sky engineer back, until they sort it.
I bought a 12v panel fan, 50mm from Maplins and took the plate off of the back that is for future upgrades, I then stuck it on the back blowing into the box with blue tack, I fed it with 6v to make it run quiet and lo and behold the box fan hardly ever comes on and the Sky box is cold. I used a variable power supply from Maplins. Hope this helps.
The fan does run quite a lot...I don`t notice it normally, but my wife hears it quite a lot as she sits closer to it...make sure you`ve got plenty of ventilation around it..I moved mine into a bigger compartment on my set up and the fan doesn`t kick in nearly as much.
Not noticed any actual `Buzzing` other than that, though
