Cheap DVD Player Advice wanted please

shatappaurface (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 13th May 2004, 15:39

Have decided to purchase a new dvd player as my current Ronin one although it can play everything I throw at is, doesnt have RGB out and using S Video the picture isn`t much to shout about, so am looking to all you experts for some advice.

Credentials required as follows:-

Needs to play as many different media types as poss DVD+ DVD- CDR CDRW DVDRW etc

MultiRegion hackable via Remote

RGB out through scart

Doesn`t need dolby digital decoder but a coaxial output and digital output are needed

Preferably I was looking at a player £50 - £100, have purchased cheaper in the past only to find no RGB, only coaxial audio etc.

Oh and also - needs to be easily obtainable from a high street store if poss...

Can anyone advise on some dvd players I might consider

Thanks

Any particular reason you don`t want to buy from the Internet? You`ll get better deals for the recognised brand names. Speakign of which, if you want an entry-level player that has some pretty good features then why not look at the new Pioneer series?

They now do a DV-370, which handles DVD Video, VCD, SVCD, MP3, WMA, JPEG, CD/CD-R, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW. The player has composite, S-Video and SCART out (and the SCART can do composite, S-Video and RGB). It also has component out, which at this point is unusual. Best of all, it can do both PAL and NTSC progressive scan! Could be useful for later.

However, the best thing I`ve noticed about this player - and it`s something that even the more expensive models I`ve used didn`t offer - is that it has no perceivable layer change! That`s right - none whatsoever, even on tricky tites. Only £80 delivered (already multi-region) in black or silver from here.

Thanks - might give it a try - I find a lot websites don`t give detailed enough info about players - i.e. whether or not the scart out is just composite or rgb too.

Any one know of a scart switch box with automatic switching? that is also rgb compatible?
