Mini Disc Query

Stranger Danger (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 2nd May 2004, 18:29

Hi,

I`m thinking of buying a Mini Disc player & was wondering if anyone knows if you can record direct from a DVD player. I have quite a few music DVD`s which I`d love to convert.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about that. I use software to rip the soundtrack of DVDs to MP3s or WAV and then transfer them to my Minidisc. The url for the s/w is:-

if you`re interested. It costs a little, but its very quick and easy to use.

i just press play on dvd player and record on md.

I`ve got my DVD player`s Left and Right audio outputs plugged into the AUX input on my hi-fi so I can record CD`s straight to Mini Disc. I imagine recording from DVD should be exactly the same.

I think you may have problems in doing a digital copy from DVD due to the copyright restrictions, but analogue should be ok.

Yeah that`s true. On my hi-fi, I can copy an original CD to Mini Disc using the internal CD player but it won`t let me copy anything from a CD-R I`ve made myself. However, using an external player (eg my DVD player) connected to the analogue inputs is no problem. I would guess that connecting the DVD player via the optical input may cause problems as mentioned in the above quote.
