Suggestions for a new DVd player for about £50?

Hi all

I have been quite a satisfied owner of a Cyberhome DVD CH400 player which cost £50 from WHSmith about 9 months ago. Unfortunately, I have noticed that it has got very hot if left on standby and just recently, when I turned it on again, it went `BANG` and flames shot out of the vents. RIP!!

I have contacted Cyberhome who have said that they have been having difficulties getting more stock in and that was about 2 months ago. I have now spoken to WH Smith who have offered me a GVG 995 for a replacement (whatever that is) or a full refund. So I reckon that I can get another make/model for similar money elsewhere with at least the same spec as the Cyberhome.

The thing is....I`m not sure where to look. There are a lot of so-called `review` sites of players with brands I`ve never heard of (not that that bothers me) but I AM looking for something that will play DVD+R/RW aswell as all the other usual formats. Andrew Boss seem to make a good player which also plays DivX which would be excellent but they seem to be out of stock.

Can anyone help please with suggestions?

Thanks :/

Hi Wilbur750, i BOUGHT A Daewoo 9000s from amazon a few weeks back.It had 5.1 outputs,played anything,any region and it was £49.95.Unfortunatley it developed a fault
and had to be returned.Amazon refunded me in full and i then purchased a SVA 2818
dvd player for £39.99..This in turn had 5.1 outputs and played anything and any region. This one lasted three weeks and is on its way back.I have now purchased a PDVD 2266 from troppusremotsuc[at]ku.oc.tniop-latigid <troppusremotsuc[at]ku.oc.tniop-latigid>.This one has 5.1 outputs and again plays all dvd formats and cds and jpegs etc.It also has progressive scan which gives an excellent picture if your tv
has the right inputs. The message i am trying to give you is that there are a lot of far eastern products on the market. Most are excellent value for money but not so good
on reliability. So you pays your money and you takes your chance?.
To buy a dvd player with the same features as my 2266 on the high street would cost
me at least £250+.
Hope this has been some help.
Jurasic.

I`m amazed you would give Cyberhome another chance after flames came out of your existing one !!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o
The Pacific 1002 from Asda is amazing for £30.
My only wish is that they`d styled it a bit better.
That`s splitting hairs though.
