Phillips DVDR 880 faults

I have a Phillips DVDR 880 which on four occasions whilst recording and during playback has gone off completely with nothing on the display and no reponse from the remote and the buttons on the unit. When unplugged and lefted of for 30 minutes or so it will work when powered up. I sent a e-mail to Phillips (UK) telling them of the problem I was experiencing and a request for information with regards to faults etc. that had come to light with this model. After a fews days I recieved a reply saying "sorry that I was having problems with their equipment but that I would have to contact the retailer to get an engineer to to look at it". The engineer sent by the retailer could do nothing on site and had to take it away, they have had it for two weeks and now it has had to be sent to Phillips. After looking at the DVD Reviewer and other sites I have had all the problems listed ie. not playing and skipping pre-recoded discs (which play fine in my old & cheap JMB player) , leading brands of blank discs not been recognised both R & RW, it also has problems in memorising stations and especially the satelite system. Phoned Phillips who said if I wanted to speak to an engineer I would have to pay them a fee & that it was up to the retailer to provide a replacement machine or money back. I feel Phillips has ripped me & many others off with this model of player >:(

Mainly this model, but certainly not restricted to it,the Philips range of dvd recorders is best left alone until they get it right-but with Philips history,I doubt they ever will

I just want to bring you all up to speed with whats happening with my Phillips DVDR 880 Well after being away at Phillips for three weeks and despite requesting an upgrade to a newer model, this I was informed, not possible. A couple of days later my machine arrived back, however I was told by the engineer that they did`nt know what had been done to it by Phillips as there was no advice notes enclosed with it, so he could`nt tell me if it was working or not as it was still wrapped in their original shrink wrapping. I contacted the retailer, who fortunately thought the same as me, enough was enough and is going to give me my money back and let their legal department take over. Again Phillips poor product, crap service and non existent backup.
Avoid them like the plague!!!! >:(
