Scan SC-2000 died upgrading to official 2.14 Firmware
Anyone had the same problem...
1) Bought machine early Feb with 2.06 firmware installed.
2) Downgraded to 1.80 twice as suggested on this forum.
3) Upgraded to 2.14: Scan died - no TV picture or LED display thereafter.
I used official release 2.14 from NiVZ site.
Scan replaced unit next day - thanx :o)

Upgrading firmware on anything with flash memory always carries a risk - that`s why most motherboard manufacturers don`t advise upgrading BIOS unless you really need to. A few bytes get corrupted and its `goodbye`.

MalcomM , Did you ever get your Aiwa back?
RE: Scan SC-2000 died upgrading to official 2.14 Firmware
U were right MalcolmM, firmware upgrades are risky - as I found out.
I took the risk of trying it again - upgraded to 2.14 OK now. Maybe I did something wrong last time. This time I used a CDR instead of CDRW, wrote at 1x instead of 10x. Followed the instructions in NiVZ`s FAQ to the T and all is fine.

That is real interesting
The time i upgraded using acdrw ny scan did exactly the same thing.
I have upgraded multiple times on all the scans i have had and they all worked fine with the exception of the cdrw.I suspected that the fact i used a cdrw may have contributed to my scan dying-this has gone some way to proving my theory.
I think this should be noted by all scan owners.

up the irons
Nivz -i think this is worth including on the F.A.Q

I have played about with upgrading my Scan with initially CD-R and then CD-RW. The CD-RW has been successful every time for me. I don`t think the media is the issue here.
You can always check the .rom file on the CD with a downloadable CRC checking program - there are many out there.
RE: Scan SC-2000 died upgrading to official 2.14 Firmware
I would be very wary of burning a CD of the firmware faster then 2x.
As flashing firmware carries a risk it`s always best to err on the safe side and make sure the disc is written correctly and is easy to read by the player.
I`ve never had any problems when upgrading.
