Can anyone recommend a good 28" widescreen TV?
I am looking to buy a 28" widescreen TV, price range around £500-600. Have not bought a new TV for years. Can anyone recommend a good model/manufacturer? Preferably true flatscreen. :/
RE: Can anyone recommend a good 28" widescreen TV?
Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic I would recommend from experience.
This Sony is 28", flat screen and with cabinet.

I`d have said similar, but minus the Toshiba comment.
Unless you intend to go for a 32"+ Toshiba, I`d give them a miss.
Sony? good, but overpriced for what they do.
JVC? Damned underrated on their current ranges (and the last!!), one of the few manufacturers to still give 3 seperate scarts on their sets, and pretty good features and styling.
(Anyone else noticed the newer range of Sony sets bear a striking resemblance to the last two years of JVC`s?)
So, to cut it short...JVC series or Panasonic. The Pannys come up a bit short on cabinet quality but they`re all going to thinner plastics these days...must be cost cutting.
Panasonic PS5 or PS1 (both 50htz sets) have fantastic picture quality, fall right into your price bracket and look nice (except that stupid gap either side at the top of the stand "legs"..Panny...shoot the designer!!).
Difference between them is the PS5 has integrated Dolby Digital decoding, so a quick easy, neat fix if you want surround from your DVD without the extra amp box.
(Downside: Change the telly in the future and you need to either get another DD 5.1 telly or a seperate amp kit at that point.)
Panny sounds nice too.

Panasonic tv`s(50hz) are praised all the time for their superb picture quality. However, all the suggested makes are good, but one thing to remember is with a 28" set, don`t be tempted to buy 100hz.Its not needed at 28",and really introduces more problems than it solves

I wouldn`t spit on a JVC if it was on fire :)
Only joking chewie. :p
Now JVC DVD players, they are items to behold!

You aint seen their sets in the last year or two then? Very low return rate on them too in my experience!

chewie is regular poster here and has contributed to this thread. He started a thread a while back asking for advice on 28" TVs and I told him to tell his brother to go for the Tosh and he went for the JVC - so it`s just a bit of friendly banter `cos I went for the Tosh. He made a serious schoolboy error ;)

Got one have we? :D ;)
I myself have a Toshiba DVD player ;)
I`ll speak from experience on JVC. I`ve got a 24" Widescreen in the bedroom, it was a display model and I got it dirt cheap 4 years ago. The only problem I had with it is the RGB was really dark (so I used the next best thing, S-Video), but not so long ago I discovered how to get into the Service Meun (press "Info" and "mute" together. There I vastly increased the RGB Contrast to be correct.
My brother`s TV is great. It`s only a smallish living room he has, thus why he is only getting a 28", but it is a really nice picture on it. I`ve seen Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sanyo and JVC all in action in the shops (wired up to a DVD player) and they all looked pretty good to be honest. Toshiba, Panasonic and JVC looked the best value for money, and he saw a good deal on the JVC so went for that.
So basically, in my experience, JVC have never let me down and they can be had at a very resonable price :)
Although my parents have had a Toshiba 32" Widescreen for ages (1996 or 1997) and it`s still going strong.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have been looking at Panasonics recently so may go with those after all your good recommendations. Or maybe JVC.
