Scan SC2000 - Problems - Help

robertdavis (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 13th February 2001, 08:27

Help!
I bought a SC2000 and enabled region free (9) to watch Gladiator, region 1 version, on a number of occasions it jumped for a brief moment (just like digital sky when it freezes) and then locked up. It happened a number of times, and at different points on the disc. Is there something in setup that needs to be tweaked, or do people feel that I should return the player for a replacement?

Also my firmware version is 206, which in the faq says that I cannot make macrovision disabled, can I change this by upgrading to version 2.14?

thanks for your advice

You`ll have to talk to Nelley at Scan. E-mail him at yellen[at]ku.oc.nacs about the picture freezing and locking up. He`ll probably tell you to upgrade.

Version 2.14 is `VCR friendly` (Scan don`t like the M word as they are getting in trouble). Here is a link to the official firmware version from Nelley.

Talk to Nelley first though.

It seems very similar to the problem I have with Fantasia 2000. At a few points of the CD the image and sounds freezes for a short time (half a second maybe). I can reproduce the problem easily, although it happens maybe in 75% of my attempts. I know that it can happen on different moments of the movie, so this is not a layer change. It happened on a single-layer disc anyway as well. In Fantasia 2000 I know some locations where it is likely to happen.
On a few DVDs I rented it happened as well.
This is a very annoying problem. Like you I wonder if the player needs to be replaced or not.
Concerning Fantasia 2000 I wonder if I am the only one to hav e this problem, unfortunately nobody seems to have this DVD.

In your case, can you reproduce the problem ? Did you find locations on the discs where it is likely to happen ?

It doesn`t seem to be related to R1 discs because my discs are R2.

Hi,

I have upgraded my sc-2000 to firmware 2.14.

I can`t seem to change the VCR friendly feature to be on.

Please could you advise.

Thanks,

Nilesh.

Did you download V2.14 from the french site, or my site? Mine is definitely Macro disabled, as I recorded a DVD this week.

Burn the tdvd-000.rom from this ZIP file:

http://members.scotland.com/NiVZ/scan/firmware.zip

Mine was Macro disabled automatically, but you may need to press:

SETUP, STOP, TITLE, PREV

Same thing here : ( the picture will freeze for half a second every now and then. I was on firmware 2.06, I upgraded to firmware 2.08 but still the same. This is my second player, I returned the first for exactly the same thing.

I wonder if its a faulty batch ?

Anyone else had problems ?

Hi,

I downloaded the file from your site.

Burned to cd, then did the update, all seems well, plays all regions.

but when I look at the System Status Window, it reports :-

ADV7172 00000003

Which I presume is macrovision enabled from your FAQ file on your site.

I thought when macrovision is disabled, it should read :-

00000001

Please could you tell me if this is correct.

Thanks again,

Nilesh.

Xeno is right. The newer Scans always show 00000003 whether Macro is on or off. The only way to know for sure is too connect to your VCR and record a DVD.

NiVZ.

P.S I`ve updated the FAQ with this to save confusion. I`m waiting on Nelley`s comments before I post it up.
