Akura ACHTS02

paul_ctr (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 14th December 2003, 17:57

Hi,

I have just bought this from SummerFiled, it has the player and speaker setup as per the system on the Akura website. Does anyone know if there is a region hack for this specific model. Also the sound from the speakers is way too loud, I can`t set the volume anything above "1" as it is too loud!

I have tried every hack I could find on the web for the other Akura models.

Does anyone know of any phone numbers or email addresses for Akura tech support, as there was nothing in the box or manuals?

Thanks

Paul

Hi again,

I have just spoken to Akura technical suport (01422 203676) and they are telling me that it is a problem, there are no current fixes planned for it!! He said that the unit they had there was doing the same thing and the only fix they found was to unplug and plug it back in and it went away !!! ???

Also I have found somebody who published a hack for it - haven`t had time to try it yet:

Press OPEN
Press SETUP and press right 3 times to PREFERENCES PAGE
Press PLAY twice and enter 49540
Select region by UP and DOWN key (0 = multi) then PLAY to commit
Press SETUP to exit

Will be trying that one later.

As for the volume thing - I managed to pay £69 for the unit, so I aint complaining - might take it apart and work out a solution to reduce overall volume - will let you know if I manage it.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks for the info. We also have an Akura ACHTS02, great machine but too loud on CD playback and Tuner.

Please let us know if you crack the problem. Is it posible to attenuate the 5.1 signal between the DVD and 5.1 amp. I assume the decoding is done in the DVD and therfore the signals are analogue and can be attenuated?

Any further info, greatfuly accepted.

Cheers

I would assume that you are correct and the decoding is done inside the unit. I had to remove the cover to get the tray to open on mine, and naturally there is very little in there, but the board feeding all the audio stuff looked very analogue, but I didn`t pay much attention at the time.

As soon as I have 5, I will get a scope out and look at the signals on the 5.1 output - if they are analogue, I may very well just do a little attenuation board to sit in there.

Seems like a lot of effort, but I have found the unit superb quality for the price, and the investigations will cost me nothing but time!!

In the meantime, I am going to hassle technical support every now and again to see if Akura have introduced a "software upgrade" as it says on the side of the box that this is something the unit is capable of.

Also, I have tried the multi region thing and certainly the hidden menu appears - but don`t have any region 1 discs at the moment, so can`t prove it - but it looks promising!!

Keep you informed.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris
I am a new member and recently purchased an Akura ACHTS02, had the sound problem and exchanged it for another unit with the same result. My problem is what to do now? Should I persevere or take it back for a refund. I agree the unit is superb for the money, but I am only semi-technical.
I also have another issue, my DVD is con to AV1 and my SAT & VCR is conn to AV2. When I have my DVD switched on and switch to AV2 the DVD menu still appears (rolling), I can hear the sound from my sat channel, but no SAT picture. Any ideas ??
I would also like to know if I can use the surround system for my SAT TV?

Any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated URGENTLY !!!!

Mike

Hello i too purchased the system from sommerfield for £69 but have hit a snag, the audio lead form the woofer to the player is dodgy. Im only getting sound out of 3 speakers yet with a bit of twisting the cable and pulling it out of one of the sockets i get 4 speakers on but not the right speaker just crackle. The lead seems ok ( 9 pins intact) have contacted support and await anew cable yet that was a week ago and still i wait. Anyone else have the problem? ive asked around and they just dont make 9 pin cables anywhere.
Hoping and praying they send a new cable and it solves the problem as sommerfield have now sold out of the systems.

Well, sure enough, I`m taking mine back.

Couldn`t devote the time to looking at it, BUT on the weekend, the system just started making a really loud rasping sound which won`t go away - so it`s officially dead!!! so It`s going back.

Well i got a new audio lead but this didnt solve the none speakers working problem, so i took it back to sommerfield and gota replacement, the new system up to now seems fine all the speakers work well and the volume on number1 is ok and not too loud, so im well happy now, hope you all get sorted, think maybe some of the systems are poor and its just pot luck if you get a gud un`.
