My girlfriend wants a dvd player for Christmas, and i was wondering which was the best player to get between these two?

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks.

Irks me to say it, but Pacific is probably the better one to go for, as there are a number of annoying glitches with the Sampo-made Compacks DVD5000 player which make it too risky to go for (such as failure to handle seamless branching titles correctly, .mp3 playback problems including popping and screeching tracks, a widescreen signalling fault, some players not being earthed properly) and with no sign of a fix from Sampo, MediaTek or Compacks on the horizon, despite constant campaigning by Area 450.

The Pacific player will come with a 3 year warranty and is cheaper to boot. The only plus point is that the DVD5000 can be rendered VCR friendly (due to a firmware glitch !), features a full set of video and audio outputs and is also a Progressive Scan player).

Honest opinion, despite me being an ardent Sampo supporter
