Audio on the Scan-2000 DVD...

Can the Scan take advantage of surround sound?! I have read that there is no extra sockets at the back of the player for Dolby 5.1. Is there any way to include these capabilities, or would i simply have to buy a better/more expensive machine to take plug in a 6-way amplifier....? Would the lack of the Dolby Decoder make a noticeable difference anyway??!

Any thoughts would be great!!

the SC 2000 has a pair or digital outs, so if you have a dolby /dts decoding amp/reciever then plug it into that.

The Scan 2000 has both Optical and Electrical (Phono socket) digital outputs. They supply PCM (ie CD Audio), Dolby Digital (Pro Logic & 5.1) as well as Bitstream (DTS) so in reality all you need is an A/V amp with built-in decoders for the above (the Denon AVR1601 includes DTS as well as DD - I don`t know about the Yamaha DSP-A5)

Whilst you can get DVD players with Dolby Digital (& DTS) decoders built-in, providing 6 (yes 6) line level outputs (on phono sockets) it is a much neater solution just going digital direct to a suitable amp. In most cases the built-in decoders on the DVD player end up redundant.
