I got in touch with a guy selling a brand new Samsung 511 player for £100,but should I spend the extra 70 quid and get a scan,guys help me out!!!!any other suggestions welcome.

You only need to look in the forums to see the trouble the Scan owners are having. That alone would make me go for the Samsung, let alone getting it for £100.
I have a Samsung 511 and have had no probs with it so far.

If MP3 and VCD playback are important to you, get the Scan, if all you want to do is watch DVD, get the Sammy.
Oh, I`m speaking here as a Scan owner... who wishes he`d got the Sammy 511. Samsung make great players, the (now discontinued) Sammy 709 is the best DVD player I`ve seen.
One other thing to consider, I`m not sure if there is a convenient region hack for the 511 yet, so R1 playback could be a problem.

It seems as it is a brand new Samsung so the region hack should not be a problem. Try the 38767 hack mentioned in these forums - works a treat on mine.
