ALBA DVD108 problems playing with LOTR and other dvd`s

There`s another thread about this as regards the Wharfedale. Same problem - the copyright gets displayed and then a blank screen, can`t function any of the buttons except eject.

The "fix" for the Whafedale (pressing stop before the copyright is displayed) doesn`t work. Anyone any ideas?

Identical problem on Young Ones Series 1 - but not Series 2!!

I know these DVD`s themselves are sound as they played on my Dad`s PC.

Why does this happen?

Grateful if anyone knows a way round this..

I had this problem with my mates machine as well - here is how I managed to get round the problem.

copied and pasted from my original posting..........

PROBLEM :-

having just bought the Two Towers yesterday I tried to play it in my mates ALBA 108D DVD player and lo and behold....... it jams right after it shows the EIV studio logo at the 9 second mark!

No amount of key pressing such as `skip` - `menu` - `ff` etc would make it play.

if anyone else is having this same bother I managed to find a solution :-

SOLUTION :-

Just as the EIV logo is playing if you hit `PAUSE` before it hits the 9 second mark and then `FF` it will then skip the bit that is jamming and take you to the start menu for the DVD.

Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

You`re a hero, Mikeyb. Well, for LOTR fixes anyway! That worked a treat on LOTR, so many thanks. Doesn`t work on the Young Ones though. Have to think of something else for that...
