Page 1 of MORE SCAN FIRMWARE
Hardware Forum
I`ve just received my replacement SCAN after my last one (v187) broke during a firmware upgrade. My new box is v206 and I`ve noticed a few problems.
1. There are blue/purple shadows around the images on the screeen (especially noticeable in The Matrix lobby scene). This did not happen in v187.
2. There is a delay between pressing a button on the remote and the DVD doing anything. (ie pause, fast forward, next chapter etc.) Again this didn`t happen in v187.
3. I can`t disable MacroVision which I need to as as I connect through my Video SCART. Blue screen shows AV7172 00000003
Another thing I noticed is that when I switch the Unit on the blue shadow in front of the DVD logo goes red for a second and then blue, but not all the time.
If I do downgrade/upgrade the firmware does this void the warranty,
and if it breaks during this would SCAN replace it?
I`d appreciate some feedback, especially from Nelley.
I too have noticed the blue shadowing on my scan which is being replaced tomorrow - i noticed it on my first machine also.I have firmware 2.04 and 2.08s that nelley sent me-i can email them to you if you want.
I have been running the 2.08s firmware and it switches off macrovision.
Regarding the blue shadowing, with mine it does it when there is alot happening on the screen or when there is a bright scene following a dark scene. This shouldent happen and if my replacement does it then i will be requesting a refund as it seems more of a hardware issue than a firmware issue.
As far as i know the 2.08s firmware will disable macro on all scans past v1.64.
Are you running the scan directly into the tv via scart?
If you want the firmware email me at

I`ve tried it direct to the TV and through the Video using the SCART. I`ve tried RGB and COMPOSITE in the setup options, but there is no difference. Haven`t tried it through the other ports yet.
As you say it is when dark images are moving fast on the screen. I`ve noticed the same prob on The Crow as well.
Is the remote delay fixed in v208s? It`s really bugging me just now.
Could you send me version 208s as I have nearly all other previous versions (although I don`t have a backup of 206).
I`m waiting to see if SCAN will replace the machine if it breaks again during a firmware upgrade before I start burning fimware CD`s.
Thanks,
NiVZ.

When you said it worked, do you mean that the menu screen list 000001 instead of 000003 or did you actually try to go through a VCR ?
Are you sure the `blue shadowing` on fast moving scenes isn`t actually your TV set? My TV (a Panasonic) does this a bit with Toshiba SD100, I thought it was a bit of `image persistance` in the TV tube.
I`m positive -ive tried it on a panasonic 36" widescreen.22" ferguson and 26" mistubishi, same problem.
i too have noticed the blue fringe around the edges of fast moving images. The artefact is most obvious in the kung fu scenes between Neo and Morpheus in chapter 15 of the "Matrix".
Anybody out there has any suggestions how this could be fixed?
I too would love to know how to stop the blue shadowing- hopefully nelley will have a suggestion or perhaps look into it as a possible firmware fix??
My new machine arrived an hour ago and apart from some blue shadowing i cant fault the player. It arrived with version 2.06 firmware and macro couldent be disabled -but after i upgraded to 2.08 macro is gone.
I want to thank nelley and wesley at scan for their help and cooperation.
I got throught to Scan Tech services, and they said to e-mail Nelley with the problem which I`ve done.
Xeno have you noticed a delay between pressing a button on the remote and the machine actually doing it? Mine does.
Also, could you tell me what program and settings you used to burn the firmware. My last attempt broke the player (although a few people from the same batch had this prob).
I`m waiting to hear back from Scan before doing anything. I`ll post anything I find out.
Meantime I`d appreciate a copy of the 208 macro disable firmware Xeno.
Thanks,
Paul.
