Anyone shred any light on this???????
I sure you are all aware that Divx copies are far superior to vcd`s but they will only play on your computers. My question is this
Whould it be posible to write a piece of code to be include in a firmware update for a stand alone player (say the scan 2k) or do you need a dedicated piece of hardware to do the job???????
RE: Anyone shred any light on this???????
It would be possible to write some code in firmware (CODEC) to decode DivX but there`s a couple of problems at least!
First the DivX CODEC is based on Micro$ofts MPEG 4v3 CODEC and would charge you an astronomical fee for the use of it. Also movie houses would HATE it so it would never get off the ground.
Secondly the pathetic micro-controller chips contained within DVD players are no where near powerful enough to decode DivX movies in real-time.
You`d need a Pentium class processor to display even VCD quality movies.
Give up day-dreaming M8. We`ve all been there before you!
Look into MiniDVD - Its you best hope. (But probably not for the Scan2K)
