Need for buit in decoder??

leemus (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 18th January 2001, 13:35

Hi - i wonder if anyone can help.
I have yet to buy a DVD Player, but i have a couple in mind and was wondering how important a couple of features are. I am looking at the Hitachi 505E (with built in decoder & 1 Scart socket) or the Philips DVD756 (without built in decoder, but 2 Scart sockets).
My questions are: How useful is a built in decoder? and is it necessary to have 2 Scart sockets?
If anyone can give me some suitable advice (without taking the p***!) it would be massively appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Leemus.

built in decoders are only usefull if:
A)you have a newer pro-logic amp with 6 inputs
B)you don`t mind connecting up 3 separate amps for all six channels
C) you have 5 active speakers and a sub.

As for two scarts, who cares?
