Sony 735 @ Richer Sounds?

mr-nick (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 11th January 2001, 12:08

Anyone bought the Sony 735 from Richer Sounds and can answer these questions?

Is the modification auto or manual switching?
Can it handle RCE protected discs?

Many thanks

Finally got through on the phone...

The modification is auto switching
Couldn`t confirm RCE

Also no stock possibly for 3-4 weeks [Glasgow]

So anyone got suggestions for another supplier?

multiregionmagic.co.uk

also darn cheap and it arrived 2 days later MMMMMMM

beware of it`s colour management tho - it has an obsession with making films dark. I think it just expects everyone to have their brightness a bit high.

Thanks Iain

Does the MMM modification work with RCE discs?

If yes I`ll be placing my order asap :)

I bought a 335 from MMM, and was told that it did work with RCE disks, had auto/manual region setting and also disabled the macrovision. I noticed that they also did a cheaper mod that was auto only and no macrovision disable.

I`ve tried the R2 Patriot and that works OK (I know that the R1 Patriot was RCE, but don`t know about the R2 version - does anyone else know?)

When I contacted RS however, they told me that their mod for the 335 didn`t play RCE disks and didn`t disable the macrovision.

The only worry that I had with MMM was that there were blobs of solder all over the back of the player, and I was converned about the quality of the mod/bits of solder loose inside. I haven`t had any functional problems though.

The 450 pound version from Multiregionmagic skips the FBI warning, plays all dics and has onboard DD & DTS decoder. Switch off all the gubbins and this player will really satisfy your needs.

Macro disabled.

That`s exactly the reason I decided on the 735 rather than some machine around £200-300. Looking through these forums there`s rarely any posts about problems with Sony [except for the constant `Is there a region hack` questions.

Now all I have to do is decide what my new TV should be - 32" Sony FX65 or FQ75 or should I be looking at Panasonic TAU?

I just purchased the KV32FQ75 and I can safely say that there is no other tele that comes close. This tele is the F-ing Biz.

4x the res of other tele`s
50/100 Hz switchable
Incredible sound
Looks to die for

Right, I`m off for a toss......
