Unable to play DVD-RWs on PS2 and Hyundai 320A!

Didski (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 15th April 2003, 08:40

I have a Philips DVD Re-recorder (890) but I cannot play my recorded DVD-RWs on my PS2 or Hyundai DVD Player (320A). My cousin can play them on his Playstation 2, but when I try the same (original Philips DVD-RW) disc it says it can`t read it "Error reading disc".
The Hyundai player says "No Disc".

- Any ideas anyone? It is very frustrating!

I take it your PS2 is older than your cousin`s. The earlier PS2s simply can`t play DVD-RWs, DVD+RWs or DVD+Rs at all - end of story. Only the later models will work with them.

As for the Hyundai, is it advertised as being DVD+RW compatible? Have you tried a DVD+R disc to see if that works?

Yes, the Hyundai is DVD-RW compatible, it is all over the documentation and sales literature on all sites. I haven`t tried any other discs yet, but will try it, thanks. My PS2 is older than my cousins by 6 months, mine was bought in June 2001.

Is it *DVD+RW* compatible, though? DVD+RW is not the same as DVD-RW - your Philips recorder uses the DVD+RW format.

well my ps2 is one off the first out and it will play all the formats you have mentioned above.
