It is somewhat maddening that all my recorded -R discs are presently causing a U11 code display. I am new to DVD burning. I have played many of these discs back satisfactorily, and now find that I am having difficulty opening the tray once the unit has shown "RECOVER" and "READ". I can`t remove the disc, and the display remains "READ" for an extended time. I suspect that I should be doing something to my E-30 since this appears to be happening with all my discs.
My specific question is, how do I open the tray when I wind up in such an situation where the E-30 is hung up with one of the following dispalys: "READ" or "CLOSE"? I have had to remove the cord and fiddle with the unit many times to finally get it to release the disc, and there must be an easier proceedure which is not mentioned in the manual. I fear that someday, the tray will not open after many attempts.
I would appreciate any help from anyone who has experienced this same difficulty.
RE: Panasonic E-30 Playback Difficulty
Just as a follow up two issues occurred to me:
1. Could there be some dirt or foreign particles in the machine?
2. I am using bulk pro-grade -R silver 2X discs which at times don`t always burn, but I have had success for the most part. Could my choice of -R discs be at fault?
RE: Panasonic E-30 Playback Difficulty
it`s almost certainly the media and unfortunatly sticking to the same brand does`nt always pay off i personaly have used loads of bulk-pac discs (purple gen 3) and never had a failure however yesterday i got 100 disc`s from the computer fair (£25 for 50) same brand same disc and i`ve already had 3 failures out of 10 attempts so different batches seem to be a factor on cheaper discs the only ones that seem to be 100% reliable are the traxdata dvd-r but they are £1.20p each (and thats the cheapest i`ve seen them) so it`s a case of pay your money & take your chances that said the dmr is a great machine i`m realy pleased with mine and i`m sure these teething troubles will be sorted out eventualy, remember cd-r media went through all this in it`s infancy and now it`s very unusual to get a bad disc
RE: Panasonic E-30 Playback Difficulty
I have several E30`s and until recently the Bulkpaq Gen3`s have been very good. However, now it would appear that a huge amount of faulty discs are going around. They are recognised by the centre piece being clear and not white. These DO not work very well, lots of U11 ! !
I am now using Datawrite yellows and service has restored and this appears to be the best media yet.
Hope this helps.
Veracity.

i also have used the yellow datawrites and they are ok but i still lost 3 out of 20 were as untill recently i never lost a purple bulk-pak (gen 3)
RE: Panasonic E-30 Playback Difficulty
The information has been helpful, and I conclude that the media is the root of the problem. The DMR E-30 hang ups, and it is difficult to open the tray when there are problems reading, recovering or some other factor influences the unit`s operation. It requires pulling the plug and forcing a restart, and even at that it doesn`t work each time. It seems analogous to re-booting a computer. From my research on the Internet, it appears that there is support for the use of Verbatum DVD-R discs to correct DMR E-30 difficulties, and I even saw Maxell mentioned favorably. I can not testify that this is the answer. If anyone has had experience with Verbatum discs, please let us all know. Thank you.

The trick with getting bad quality discs out (I`ve got an E20 so its even more touchy) is to hold the power button in for about 20 seconds or so. This causes the machine to switch off. If you then press the eject button the player should kick back into life and eject the disc.
Discs I`ve used - the Datawrite Gen 4s, the Datawrite yellows, Datawrite classics. The best at the moment seems to be any of the discs that use the Ritek g03 dye on them (though they are in short supply so the price has been pushed up).
If you look on sites such as www.121cdr.co.uk they tend to state which machines the dvd-r is compatible with.
