i have a widescreen tv and when i watch dvds in 2.35.1
the enhanced dvds have a small black bars top and bottom
the non enhanced have bigger black bars and if i alter the
tv setting to 16.9L the bars go smaller
is this ok or am i stretching the picture

Set the DVD player to just 16:9, not 16:9L, which I presume is letter bok.

Generally you should use 16:9 mode for anamorphic ("Enhanced for 16:9 TVs") widescreen DVDs, and "Zoom" mode for non-anamorphic widescreen stuff.

I`m not sure what 16:9L is. It could be what your TV`s manufacturer has decided to call Zoom mode, or something else entirely.

Anyway, it should be blatantly obvious when a picture is stretched; everyone is either tall and thin, or short and fat! Just use your judgement - if it *looks* OK, it probably is.
