Page 1 of DVD`s on (UK) Playstation 2
Hardware Forum
Having recently brough myself a Playstation 2 I can enjoy the wonders of DVD, however I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the discs I have.
Some examples include `Unable to read disc` messages, digital breakup , mismatched sound and video, images turning green in the middle of the film etc etc.
Some of the discs I`ve had problems with are, 3 Thunderbirds discs (Carlton), all different volumes, each with a different problems, Fantasia Legacy (Disney DVD) that doesn`t play at all, James Bond- The World is Not Enough, (MGM) skips video and sound.
I`m assuming that the discs themselves aren`t faulty because having changed them for new versions the problems are still there.
My main point is - Is the Playstation 2, because of its multi tasking nature, (ie games console and DVD player) unstable per se, or is it likely that I`ve got a faulty unit.
I`d appreciated some views from others as I`m really annoyed at spending £300 pounds for something that doesn`t do what it`s supposed to.
Cheers,
All the best,
Andrew
PS2 dvd player uses the LSI chipset
Wharfdale 750 + other budget players use LSI chipset and have problems with some discs.
Wharfdale 750 was on BBC Watchdog.
A replacement for Gladiator disc 2 is available.
I suggest you contact Watchdog
The ability to playback DVDs is really the secondary function of the PS2, so it`s never gonna match a fully fledged player in its own right.
That said, however, there`s no excuse for the dodgy playback that you`re getting.
CW2000 notes correctly the similarity in chipsets between the Wharfey 750, which has had several problems with certain discs.
Certainly worth checking http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog and following up the story about returning discs - there was a return address to send stuff to to get replacement discs.
RE: DVD`s on (UK) Playstation 2
compared a mates PS2 versus my Daewoo 2200 using Aliens . Didn`t give any problems, and the picture was actually better than the daewoo (which has now been returned to Argos by the way). may be a problem with your machine.
