I have just purchased a Limit DVD9900SE. This does indeed play all the formats you mentioned: DVD, CDR, CDRW and VCD. Still further, it also plays CD, DVD-Audio and MP3.

It has built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding and can be switched between NTSC or PAL output, which I think means you could use it on a PAL only television, though mine is multistandard.

Using a hack via the remote control, I have set it to automatically play disks from any region (my old DVD had to be switched each time I put in a different region DVD).

Please note that the Limit DVD9900 and the Limit DVD9900SE are not identical. So my comments refer to the latter. The other feature is progressive scan, but I cannot advise you about this as it doesn`t appear to do anything on my television - perhaps a TV has to have certain characteristics to display a progressive scan picture. I have used the S-Video output from the DVD as when I used the SCART output, it introduced noise into the audio output signal from the DVD`s onboard decoder.

The sound and picture are now excellent.

It cost me £199, though I cashed in my old DVD (2 years old) for 50% of its value under Richer Sounds` excellent buyback/ guarantee, which cost me £19.95 for 3 years (it still costs the same). If you don`t use the guarantee or buyback, you can get a refund after the three years.

I hope that will help you to make up your mind.

Hi m8,
Must say I really fancy this DVD player (Limit DVD9900SE) but I need to know does the hack you have disable the Macrovision?

Hi macdaddy here,
My brother in law got his from richer sounds and asked me to give it the once over to seen how it works and sounds.
Well the old saying is you get what you pay for and by that i mean it`s crap. Two words come to me when playing this dvd player cheap and nasty. review points.
1. the tray for the dvd was light and sometimes it took a while to open as the tray came out at a slight angle. having to press the button three times is not on.
2.dvd-audio was rubbish as i played QUEEN`S a night at the opera and alice cooper`s million dollar babes and both had lack or no bass at all even with the sub on full and amp`s setting at 10+ it sounded better playing on my toshiba 220e in normal dts rather than fancy mlp audio .
3. do youself a favor and buy a good brand as it will pay in the end or save some more money and get the pioneer that play`s everything ,audio, sacd, dvdr, dvdr+,etc. Please don`t go for a cheap make as i learned that lesson before .
