Page 1 of Multi-region DVD player is `jerky`

I have finally been able to convert my Roadstar DVD3000 player to multi-region. It was set to region 2 and obviously played DVDs from region 2 perfectly.

I am now able to switch the region code to play region 1 DVDs, but the playback is a bit `jerky`. Why would this happen on region 1 DVDs? Is it something to do with the PAL/NTSC setup in the player? The picture quality is fine.

Is there anything I can do about this?

NTSC movie DVDs will usually look *slightly* jerky, due to the 3:2 pulldown effect. (For an explanation of this, see http://www.commotionpro.com/support/white_papers/3-2.html )

Normally, 3:2 pulldown is only noticeable on scenes with fast horizontal movement. If you`re used to the smoothness of movie transfers on PAL DVDs, it can be a bit disconcerting, but you soon learn to put up with it. Only a Progressive Scan setup would eliminate this problem completely, and that`s far too expensive for most people.

If the playback is *very* jerky, this could be because your player is converting the output to 625 line 50Hz for compatibility with ancient TVs. I`m not familiar with the Roadstar, but if the player gives you output options such as PAL, PAL-60, NTSC, make sure you select PAL-60 or NTSC to disable this conversion process.
