How many more kits are Sony going to roll out ! .....

In fairness this one looks to be crammed with goodies - making it even harder to justify separates !

Progressive-scan video, Pro Logic II decoding, MP3 playback, 5 Disc Changer all at around £500 !!!

Arrrrrghhhh!!!

After a good start, Sony are now starting to grate on my nerevs with the DAV range. Up until the S550, things were great, then they downgraded the sub and it`s all gone a bit crap. Honestly, the subs in the new range are some of the poorest excuses for `subwoofers` i`ve ever had the misfortune to hear. Yes, i understand that Sony are trying to cater for the elusive `lifestyle` corner of the market - but somehow they`ve lost their way on the sound front.

I heard, at great length, the DAV-S880 last week, and was appalled at the butchering it made of the fine surround mix on Attack of the Clones. Now, if you`ve heard the bit in space where Jango Fett lets of the siesmic charges, you`ll no doubt know what a superb demo moment it is. The 880 just crapped its pants through the entire scene, not what i expect from nearly £800 worth of goods.

The C770 is identical to the S550, but with a 5 disc changer. And the power output is WAY over inflated.

Sorry, this is deviating from the original post somewhat, but if you want a really good discreet surround system that is genuinely impressive, go out and buy a Pioneer 350 or Tosh 220e, and add the Acoustic Energy Aego P5 for sonic joy from speakers no bigger than your palm. Fantastic in every way. Sony, this is how it SHOULD be done!! :-)

Rant over, (it`s been a long night!)
