Safeways are selling these for £59.99 this week; does anyone know if these can play VCD`s?

Doubtful, as Apex are no longer paying Philips the licensing fee ( as witnessed on the AD1100WB from Asda - took some underground hacking to get that feature in).

Thanks! Certainly worth trying this cheap player if indeed it does support VCD`s.

I went into safeways today to look at the Apex AD-2100 to find they were replaced by a Naiko N-2081 on the shelves. The Naiko looks identical to th the Apex but looking at the box also does not support VCD`s CDR`s etc. Anyone know if they do and if you can hack to region-free?

i bought one of these naiko 2081`s today, no region hack necessary mine played region one and two out of the box even hollow man region one which i believe is rce

i just tried a pre recorded vcd and a cdr and both played fine

this player has three output modes:
multi (i`m guessing this is pure pal or ntsc, whichever way the disc was originally authored)
ntsc (you can even choose to play pal authored discs in ntsc, go figure?)
pal (you can play ntsc authored discs back in this mode, although i`m not sure if it`s converting to pure pal or pal60)

unless some bright spart is kind enough to let me know how to access the factory menu (i`ve tryed the usual setup/stop/skip back/skip fwd) and thus defeat macrovision/cgms i`ll unfortunately be taking this back to safeway tomorrow as i bought it specifically to make backups of ntsc discs to my philips dvdr890 and unfortunately it wont out of the box!
