digital coax cables

mill (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 30th September 2002, 11:05

I have just purchased a new dvd player and need to use a digital coax cable for the first time.
my problem is that i can`t get a signal to my amp ,I have tryied two
different cables and two dvd players.
Now the cables I used I admit are not digital coax cables ,they are video
cables which I assume are coax.
I went comet and the cheapest digital coax cable was £20 which I thought was a bit much just to try on the off chance
does anybody know if these cheap video cables are my problem

have you set the players to output a digital bitstream in the audio options?

also, does the amp not have an optical connection, cables for these are usually cheaper

A normal phono to phono cable WILL work. When you`re happy it`s working, go to http://www.beyondhifi.net for a decent one at a good price.

thanks all sorted now
the problem was my av amp, a kenwood, seems the cd/dvd setting is optical but the dvd/6ch is coax I have only ever used the optical cable
so the cd/dvd input seemed the obvious choice, still you live and learn
