philips 880 copies won`t play

rik 123 (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 21st September 2002, 18:07

A FRIEND HAS BOUGHT A PHILIPS DVD RECORDER MODEL 880.
HE CAN COPY DVD`S TO THE DVD+R OR DVD+RW BUT THE COPIES WILL NOT PLAY ON OTHER STAND ALONE PLAYERS.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF HE IS DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR DOES HE NEED TO ADJUST SOME TYPE OF SETTING .

THANKS RIK

And where would one purchase such a filter lead and what is it called ??
I too have the same problems when trying copy a disc. Although I managed to copy Black Hawk Down without any problems.

I would like to point out that I only would copy to make back ups. If anyone has kids I`m sure you will understand. I`ve found several DVD`s in the kids bedroom being used as coasters !!!!

These things are intended to overcome macrovision copy protection on a ANALOG signal from the dvd player to your TV. The CSS (Copyright Security System) is a much more sophisticated protection system to prevent copying from DIGITAL signals.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the obvious answer of making sure the non playing discs have been finalised.I have played DVD+R discs on;Panasonic,Toshiba,Philips,recentPS2(there seems to be a problem with early ones),Pioneer,PC&laptop,Pacific,Bush,&Dansai.Don`t spend £85 on a lead, buy a new player .Tesco`s first Dansai, the 852,had no Macrovision, more importantly,no CSS,and on top of that, a full PAL50 converter that makes NTSC discs look like PAL,producing far superior pictures to my £400 digital standards converter. The Dansai 1010 is not the same.It has CSS.On SP mode,a copy of a US DVD is near perfect.
