Problem with AV channel

Cozmoz (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 2nd December 2000, 23:42

Just got a new TV and it works fine. All the normal channels and my cable are all good pictures. Problem comes when I hit AV on the remote to watch my DVD`s. There are three vertical lines going down the screen. They are more like shadows, but you can still see them when a movie is playing. Its not that noticable but when you know they are there, you can`t help seeing them and they detract from the movie. If you turn the brightness down they disappear. The movie is watchable but definitelt too dark. I checked to see if it was the scart but there is no diference. I thought it might be the TV but why do the lines only appear on the AV channel.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Cheers

Which player is it ?

Have you checked the set up : i.e, which SCART socket are you using on the telly - is it an RGB enabled socket (if so, set the DVD player to output RGB from the SCART) - you may also need an RGB specific SCART cable (think they`re called `U` types, or summink...) ? Similarly, your telly may only have S-VIDEO enabled sockets - thus set the player to output S-VID from the SCART, or alternatively link with an S-VIDEO cable if your player supports it.

Also check you`ve told the player to output PAL (if watching R2) or convert NTSC to PAL (R1) if your TV doesn`t support NTSC (suspect as it`s new, it will do).

Also why do you need to select AV on your TV remote - as soon as you hit play on your DVD player the screen should default to AV !

I sometimes have problems with "shadow" type interferance on my wee 14" tv. It usually goes away when I unplug the co-axial tv input, leaving just the scart. Im not sure if this has any bearing on your tv, but it might help.
