Hack wanted to enable Grundig GDV620-HT to play DVD-R discs

Hope you can help. I have a Grundig GDV620-HT that will not play DVD-R discs, is there anything that I can do to enable the machine to play these discs.
The advice will save me the cost of a new DVD player.
