is there a multiregion hack for samsung-s221 model
dvd player? i tried thomson 3000 hack and it did not
help. any ideas/pointers greatly appreciated.

Hello, my friend I have the same situation that yours. My name is Victor and I`am from Panama City, Central America. I bought a DVD-S221 in USA and it`s set for region 1 for default. When I tried to play a region 4 DVD it would not played it. I already took it to an autorized Samsung dealer for a zone change and they tried to reprogrammed it with the same steps used for the DVD-S223 and it was not working. They toll me they were going to e-mail directly to the Samsung factory to see first, if there was a programming procedure for this model, and second if this model accepts the changes made to the EPROMs at all. I will let you know if anything good comes out of this investigation. Please if you have any comments on how to do it I will be gratefull for any help..

Samsung was willing to help you do a zone change? Was that the American arm of Samsung (Samsung USA)?

Also, has anyone tried to play a region 0 DVD on a Samsung S221?

Any advice on the above two queries would be greatfully appreciated.

Hello All,

Last night, a friend came by to see if she could do a multi-regional hack on my Samsung S211 DVD player. She brought a region 0 DVD to test my player. However, before she did any hacking, we turned on my TV and DVD player and inserted the DVD. The region 0 DVD played WITH NO PROBELMS.

The DVD that she brought was NOT a bootleg DVD. It was one that her friend paid money for (read: copyrighted version). Sometimes, the quality of the DVD themselves can be suspect. So, before hacking, borrow some region 0 (or other desired region 1-7) DVDs from your friends and try to play them on you Samsung S211 DVD player.

Also, be careful whom you buy your DVDs from and make sure they have a decent return or refund policy!!

Did you see my posting dated 10 October 2002? Like I said earlier, I inserted a region 0 DVD into my Samsung S221 DVD player and it was able to play the DVD just fine.

If you are trying to program your Samsung S221 to play DVDs for specific regions (e.g. regions 2-6), that`s another story. I don`t know how to do that, but I have three suggestions for you:

1) Borrow some region 2-6 DVDs and see if they will play on your DVD player

2) Find a friend who is good at hacking into DVD players and setting the codes

3) Hopefully kind soul on this site will be able to answer your question

Actually I am looking primarily into being able to play region 2 DVD`s on my samsung s211 DVD player.
