Check out info section on this site "Multi-Region Hacks", the 511 can be hacked the same as the 709, but not on a permanent basis

To set remote up
1. Press Audio
2. Press Magic (hold until light flashes twice)
3. Type 0121 (light should flash twice)
4. Press Audio
5. Press Magic until light flashes twice
6. Type 995
7. Press key that you would like to be macro key to region free the player
8. Quickly press Audio, Magic, 078, Audio Magic, 078
9. Press and hold Magic until light flashes twice.
10. If you press Audio and then the macro key the light should flash twice

To region free player (This is based on my experience with the 811 so should be the same)
1. Turn player off on front of machine.
2. Press and hold play and stop buttons on the machine at the same time.
3. Turn on machine using Samsung remote power button
4. When language options come up (front will say loading...) release play and stop buttons and select 1 for english using samsung remote.
5. Using AllinOne press Audio and then Macro key. The display on machine should say loading and then adjust. The tray will eject and you can play region 1 disks. If the display changes to No Disc before you have pressed the AllinOne you are too late and will have to start again from turning the machine off.

Note this Hack only makes the player region free while the player is on. Putting it into Standby or off will lose the hack and you will have to start again.

No problem, information came from dvd.reviewer hack information for 709, modified for 811/511, so most of the hardwork is from them.

As for the hack, that is all you need to do each time you want to play non region 2 disks.

Hi,

I have bought a Samsung DVD618-J here in Japan, where I am currently living (region 2 as well). Do you think the hack that you mentioned for the 511 might work for my model? Is there any chance that it might cause any damage if I tried it?

Thanks in advance,

Ney André de Mello Zunino.

????????????

On the DVD Reviewer site, the DVD Hacks section does carry a warning that they accept no responsability to any damage done using the hacks. I agree with that sentiment. But I also would give it ago.

Try looking on "THIS" site for the answers.

Before you do the following, cold hack the machine, press "PLAY & STOP" on the front of the machine, this gives you a language menu, select you language, probably "GIBBERISH", then continue as below, using the original remote supplied with the machine.

1. Power on your player
2. Press and hold both the Play and Stop buttons on the player
3. After a short while you should be presented with a set of language options. Release the Play and Stop buttons on the player
4. In some cases you may now need to turn your player off and then back on
5. You will now need to select a language option between 1 and 6
To convert this player to Multi-Region playback
1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control
2. Using your remote control enter the code below, note that you must know what Region your player is currently set to in order to know which code is appropriate
for Region 1 use 2, 9, 3, 3 and 4
for Region 2 use 3, 8, 7, 6 and 7
for Region 3 use 5, 6, 7, 3 and 2
for Region 4 use 7, 6, 8, 8 and 4
for Region 5 use 5, 3, 8, 1 and 4
for Region 6 use 2, 4, 4, 6 and 2

3. A code should be displayed on the screen indicating the current Region setting of your unit.
4. Press the 9 button on your remote control for Region free, or 1 for Region 1, 2 for Region 2 and so on.
5. Press the Open button on your player
6. Press the Standby button on your remote control

Now it works!!!
