Hitachi DVP305U to read multi region
Hi All,
I have a USA version of the Hitachi DVP305U, dual voltage, 3/2001 manufacture date. I would like to convert it to be able to read Region 1 and at least region 2. I guess I must configure it with code 9 for region free. I have tried the ThomsonnDTH-3300 in "ALL" the variations proposed by other multi region enthusiasts. I have tried it with and without inserting language options. I just can`t get past the 2,9,3,3,4 portion. Does my unit need a software update of 709/firmware? If yes, how do I update? Do I just download and put it on a CD and let the DVD unit read it? Or is it something I have to physically remove and plug in? Is there anyone who has real success with this DVD unit? Your HELP will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance for your help,
Neil

You need the region 1 Hack and not the region 2 hack. Check out the un-official samsung site.

US versions of the firmware for this player cannot be hacked, you need to change the firmware with one from a different region.
My Samsung/Thomson/Hitachi firmware site explains how:

You cannot update the firmware via CD - you have to physically remove the chip (don`t worry, no soldering required!) and replace it with another programmed EPROM chip.

RE: Hitachi DVP305U to read multi region
Ciao Warren,
Thanks so much for your response. My 305U unit has 4,05(J) firmware on the EPROM. How do I get the Region 1 hack? I`ve seen that the 305E has the 4,05(H) firmware and the region 2 hack seems to work OK according to so many folks.
Arrivederci,

Thanks so much for your response. My 305U unit has 4,05(J) firmware on the EPROM. Is this firmware remote hackable? Do I need a special Region 1 hack? I`ve seen that the 305E has the 4,05(H) firmware and the region 2 hack seems to work OK according to so many folks. I`ve been to your site, downloaded the 709firmware, now what? How do I get a programmed EPROM chip? How much are they?
Again, thanks so much for your help with my request.
Arrivederci,
Neiljt
