Help re Philips 701 hack

Karen Stewart (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 3rd November 2001, 17:11

Help!! I`m a so-called "newbie" with a problem. A friend gave me a hack for the above DVD player & I`ve come unstuck. I followed the instructions using my DVD remote control & the screen was meant to turn red for region 1. It didn`t instead, the screen is grey & says "DVD Loewe". I was given instructions on how to change back but with no success. Has my machine locked? The hack was as follows:
Press play, 2,7,4. Line of dots appear.Enter: 005000 128156 & play.
To change back: follow above except enter 002000 128156 instead.
After doing a spot of Sherlock Holmes detective work, looks like the hack I was given is for the Philips 730/930 models. Am I up the preverbial creek?
Thanks

Hi did this to my 756 model, it too turned my screen grey with Philips Loewe systems on it but it still played R1 discs (not R2s) and all functions OK.

You need to try the `All 4 One` remote hack it worked for me....

Good luck

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Steve....PACK IT IN

duff information again......and you`re gonna charge for it..?!?!?!?

ok...as i have said again and again and again...

PLAY 274 PLAY is the incorrect code!....this is a limited hack that locks your machine after 25 access` .....in any case...this is the code for LOWE and GRUNDIG machines.....

if you HAVE to use the PLAY *** PLAY hack then you must use PLAY 159...that is the code for philips players......BUT and this is the big but....if you enter the incorrect code....as you have done....you can disable essential components on your player....YOU should have taken a note of your firmware number so that you wold be able to return it to it`s factory settings....

if you go to my site http://www.electrouk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk you can find a table with the codes for all PLAY combinations and their explanation....

BUT if i was u....i`d buy a oneforall remote and use the RC6 hack as detailed on the region hacks page of this website....

I just hope i got to you before you were ripped off

Steve

Thank you for the tip....unfortunately, the machine is now in Virgin mode still displaying "Loewe". The settings do not include the UK in its list of countries, so I can`t reset it at all.
I guess I really need help now with the following:
undoing all of this to return it to its factory setting
making the machine multi region.

What service do you provide & how much? Do I need to send you the machine(sorry if this is a stupid question!)
Thanks

Karen Stewart

Thanks for the advice...I did what I was advised re unplugging the machine as Steve suggested. As you can see from my reply to him, it didn`t work, so I`ve asked him for more help. Didn`t realise you had already posted an alternative answer. Have now gone to your website. Please forgive my complete ignorance...I didn`t understand it!! What is "firmware?".As you may have gathered, no one told me to make a note of this(or what this is!) before I buggered up my machine & it didn`t occur to me to do so.
Would really appreciate your advice on what to do next.

bull s***.....

you don`t have to fall for this crap.....

on my page is a list of codes called P-Numbers......these are the codes you enter to activate and de-activate certain components within Philips DVD Players......because you didn`t make a note of the firmware...we`ll have to go for the nearest possible code....

ok...try this...PLAY 159 .....then 054 000 000 000 PLAY

that should return it to a Philips menu screen with the correct components activated...

if you have any more problems - htrev.nalla[at]ku.oc.tenielbac

DO NOT HAND ANY MONEY OVER - YOU DO NOT NEED TO...

and steve?....you were warned about this behaviour...

Oh dear here we go again ..... I was trying to help ... I dont know anything about remote codes as I dont use them .... I thought the factory reset would sort it out and I was wrong ..... if the person was stuck then I was trying to offer a way out .... simple as that .. try to relax a little ... if an eeprom dump from a 701 will help to determine the exact remote codes then just ask for it ...
