Hack Help Forum
Hello, Forum
I`m just looking at puchasing a Durabrand DVR A160 model from ASDA at a price of £67.97
Does anyone have one of these and have any reports on them good/bad
I also would like to know if this unit is capable of playing Avi/Xvid/Divx/Mpeg4 files?
I was also considering a Sumvision SV-1001 but these are pretty hard to get hold of as they are quite on old model but comes bundled with twice as many features as the Durabrand model including Dual recording +/-, Reading Divx/Mpeg4/Avi/Xvid, 5.1 sound, Video Camera Connection and USB connectivity from Pen drives all for around £70.00. (Reviews on these were very good picture quality at all speeds and good all rounder.
Rocks
Apparently the Durabrand DVR A160 is the Same Player as the Cyberhome DVR1600
Here is the Multiregion Hack and it has Been confirmed as Working on the Durabrand DVR A160
Turn on Player with No Disc in Player
Ensure Dsk Tray is Closed
On Remote Control Press Press Set Up
On Remote Control Slowly Press 1,6,9,5,1,8, This should bring up the Region Code window.
On Remote Control Press 0 (Zero) For Region Free or 1~6 For Region Specific
On Remote Control Press Enter,
Switch Player/Recorder Off and then On again.
If the Player is the Same as the Cyberhome DVR 1600 and it looks that way as the Hack is the Same.. Then here is the Media Playback and Compatibility List

Hope this Helps

Hi Hackeroonie,
You seem to be a mine of info on hacks but can you help with my Hyundai HD-DVX-985 which I bought in Italy for use there? Hacks for Hyundai seem few and far between!
Any guidance would be appreciated,
Bainie
Thanks for the reply Hackeroonie, any idea if there is a firmware hack to make it play Divx/Mpeg4/Avi etc.?
gonna try the Multiregion one first, if not its back to Asda 28 day no quibble money back :)
Thanks again.

Rocks
According to the Compatibility list it should play DIVX (which is AVI) so it will possibly Play MPEG also
This is of course if it is the same Player as the Cyberhome
If it does not ..there is very little chance of a Hack for this ...Unless it comes out Via Firmware Upgrade and this is also Unlikely.
As It looks like an OEM Product.
The Multiregion Hack does work ...and has been Confirmed

You are quite right about the Multiregion hack it does work, as to playing Divx I`m afraid its a no no :( tried lots of my Avi`s and no joy)
I`d just like to add that the built in tv tuner is almost worthless, I have great reception on UHF and freeview digital with perfect sight of the main TV mast Emley Moor, this tuner seems to go half a band past the best tuning picture even when fine tuning.
Did some test recording on variious makes of disks including the one provided and at different quality levels, even on high quality the results were pretty poor, I`v had better results from a VCR and I`m not being picky here.
This is one DVD recorder on its way back to Asda pronto.
I`m gonna order of the web a Sumvision SV-1000, a friend of mine has the Sumvision SV-1001 and says out performs his top grade JVC DR-MX10.
sadly the Sumvision SV-1001 is hard to get hold of now so I`ll have to settle for the Sumvision SV-1000 with slightly less features but it will record and play beer mats with very high quality results all this for around £75.00.
Thanks again Hackeroonie I`m still gonna fiddle with this one until I take it back next week.
