i have a multi region pioneer 636 dvd player last week i bought almost famous and tombcats but when i try to play them a message on the screen says not compatible will this machine even though it is multi region can anybody help

You could try playing a non RCE region 1disc as far as the FBI warning then ejecting it and then play your RCE disc,works on my chippped 515.

It all depends on where you bought it and whos mod is in it, just because its multiregion doesn`t mean its a "real" mod - there are many mods out there so its best to stick to a dealer whos reputable for that brand.
You should at the very least have a auto mod with manual backup. Any half decent dealer would offer that:)

Would recommend anyone with a non-RCE compatible Pioneer get it re-upgraded again ASAP, they`ll be more and more RCE discs as Columbia Tristar remain committed to RCE.
Instructions for changing most new Pioneers manually:-
SETUP Scroll to GENERAL Select BASIC Press CONDITION Press DISPLAY (current region is displayed) Press 1 for region 1, 2 for region 2 etc Press DISPLAY (to confirm region change)
If this option does not operate, either the machine is not upgraded or it`s a really bad auto-only mod (probably from the likes of Techtronics!)

..................techtronics 626 - 636 emod works absolutely fine. and the software on my laptop for pioneers is fine also.......its when you start chipping that knacker the players......
manual selection should cure it otherwise its a bad mod......
