Sony hack- confused

auntie79 (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 20th January 2006, 14:54

I`ve just had a look at the Sony RDR-GXD500 hack and I`m a bit confused! At the top of the page it says it will convert it to a region 1 player, then elsewhere on the page it mentions converting it to multi region! I want to make our Sony DVP NS355 player accept disks from all regions (we have loads of R2 dvds, but are moving to Oz and want to be able to play our dvds and any we buy there)- can we convert our DVD player to be fully multi region on this hack?

Sonys, Toshibas, Panasonics and most JVCs cannot be hacked via the remote. A chipping company (and therefore payment of a fee) is necessary.

The general consensus is that Sonys can`t be remote hacked. You need to pay to have the internals chipped.... although there are plenty of people out there (usually those who are asking for money for so called `hacks`) who will claim otherwise.

As DVD players are so inexpensive now I suggest it would just be simpler to buy a replacement multi-region machine rather than trying to modify your Sony.

Folks

To Clear things up a little

Sony Players Cannot be Hacked for Free using the Handset Supplied with the Player

Some Can be Hacked using a One For All type remote or using other programming Methods for Example a Palm Pilot

See this Link for Info on these Methods (look under Sony on the Hacks Page ) the Various methods and info on Models than can be hacked via these methods are covered quite a lot

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214212

Also they are covered in this Thread from This Forum..here is the link to that one as well.

Otherwise you will need the Services of a Chipping Company to help you achieve Multi Region

Here is an Example of one of these Companies

http://www.multiregionupgrades.com/upgrades/sony.htm

But there are Many out there and a Google search will help you locate them

Also be aware that if your Sony Player / Recorder is a Region 1 (NTSC) Player even if made Multiregion it will not be able to play R2 PAL / European disks only Japanese R2 (NTSC) as the Player / Recorder is NOT able to read PAL...Only Multi Format European Based Sony`s are Able to Read PAL. & NTSC and can only they can be made "Truly" Multiregion.

Hope this helps...even if only a little :)

Happy Hacking
