I have tried the remote aiwa hack with no joy. what firmware does my player need to have for it to work????

You can try this: THE HACK!
1. Turn on the DVD player `ON` 2. Wait until you see `NO DISC` displayed 3. Now press `PAUSE` 4. Now press `314159` 5. Your player should now show the word `CODE` on the display 6. You now need to enter the region code : 0 = Multi-region, 1 = US , 2 = UK, and so on upto Region 6. Region 4 = Australia (cheaper DVD`s) You only enter one of the numbers listed. So for example, if you want multi-region you should press just `0` 7. Now press `PAUSE` again 8. Turn off the player and wait about 5 secs before turning back on 9. Your player is now hacked!! Be sure to check that the switch located at the back of the player is set to `PAL` and not automatic. This usually results in playback in B & W.

Thanx teis, it worked a treat after switching to PAL from auto. ezydvd here i come!
