I just bought one of these as well and so far I am quite impressed. The lack of multi-region is a slight draw back and would certainly make for a more versatile machine, so anyone out there sussed out the hack yet? There must be more than two of us who have this model, come on guys.

Tried the Hack tonight when I got in from work and presto a multi region Targa DRH 5000. Thanks gphorce. The display goes from channel 5 to channel 0 and back and forth then the message of congrats appears on screen. It was sooooo easy.

Hack worked great, thanks!

When I try to record progams from an attached Freeview box I get this message on screen:
Record-blocking signals are detected.
This prevents recording of all the digital channels including BBC 1 etc.

Can anyone throw any light on this? Is there a fix?

Sorry can`t answer your querry as things have got a bit confusing my end (having problems after editing digital programmmes with the lip sync!) I have started a new thread to try and get some answers. Have you tried contacting Targa help desk as they have been very efficient when i have contacted them.

Hi thanks for your reply.

Yes I did contact them via email last night and received a standard auto-response this morning - but nothing more so far.

I also tried scouring the web - someone out there must know what it means.
All I found was a post in Finnish refering to the same problem re. the LG RH-4920 badged version of the machine.

But no answer. :¦

I just got a reply from Targa:

Unfortunately, there can be nothing done on this issue. The TV Station you
are trying to record from broadcasts a signal on a subchannel similar to the
Macrovision Protection that is being used as copyprotection for DVD`s.
Therefore it is not possible to record as long as this recording protection
is in place.

I`m nonplussed. Does this mean I can chuck the DVD recorder away when analogue program signals are discontinued?

Why would all the Freeview channels be blocked by Macrovision Protection?
Why isn`t everyone else reporting the same problem?
Does it block all DVD recorders?

??? >:( ???

Following further research I think the answer is to make sure your Freeview box is really "freeview" - ie. that it doesn`t have the Macrovision Protection chip built in.
This information does not seem to be published though.

One way out I think is to buy a Macrovision filter SCART connector.

I read your discussion last night and bought my TARGA DRH-5000 this morning. So far it looks very nice both visual and operational. I have even tied the region hack with success.

I have also read the instruction-manual very thoroughly (for the first time - I hate these manuals). However, regarding your problem recording som TV-programmes can that be due to the recording protection at some satelite transmissions ? Look in the manual on top of page 47. A scart connector with Macrovisionfilter is probably the best solution.

Good Luck ! :)
