Page 1 of Sony S336

I can play some region 1 dvds on a region 2 player without any hardware or software but the blue bar displaying playback is not etc.... is displayed and the screen saver keeps on coming on. (When screen saver is off the player goes into power down mode.)
How can I stop this happening?
