Can anyone tell me if there is a remote hack available for the Sony Davs300 or do you have to get it chipped, if so do you know of anyone in Northern Ireland that does this and how good are they?

Just waiting for the inevitable "chip it" responses from everyone.
Apparently Sony`s can`t be remote hacked and you have to chip them (some of which won`t defeat RCE).
There`s got to be a way though - I cant believe even Sony would not have a non-hardware method for changing the region.

The region coding is stored in a non reprogrammable firmware chip ... this is why this chip has to be replaced .... there is no other way

Sony = Columbia Tristar = RCE = No remote hack
Steve is right the Sony players (and as many other players are starting to) now store firmware on non-reprogrammable chips this is due the the high cost and lack of supplies of reprogrammable chips that used to be used (the mobile phone market has taken most of these)
