I`m not so sure about this but then again I know sweet FA about electronics. I got my Sony S360 modified - no chip. I don`t know what the heck they did but the case didn`t come off, I assume it was firmware or software mod. I`ve been playing R1 discs for some time now, quite happily.

But the new enhanced regional coding has got my goat. :(

Anyone know how to get around this cr*p on a Sony? I have a DVD ROM so the b[at]sdrats won`t stop me but its so much more edifying watching it on a 28" widescreen with 5.1 DD. :)

I can play region 1 dvds on a region 2 player without any hardware or software but the blue bar displaying playback cannot etc.... is displayed and the screen saver keeps on coming on. How can I stop this happening?
Email me back asap at 211yllo[at]ku.oc.socyl

I also want to know if anyone knows of a way of getting around the RCE (regional coding enhanced) protection on the new R1 DVDs on a Sony player. I have a DVP-S525D model which has already been chipped, but I`m a bit stuffed with this new form of protection.

I`m in the same boat matey. People are going to tell you it can`t be done. Some mod chips defeat RCE, other older ones (or cheap new ones), the one`s we have, don`t.

I still can`t believe Sony would build 6 or 7 different machines that can`t be modified without changing a chip when they could produce 1 for all regions that could `simply` be fiddled with. No wonder they`re over priced. I hope they get throttled by their own lower intestines.

It must really nark them that people are watching American movies, because both the import market and piracy are so small. Buy a R1 player and give them the finger.

Hallo mate ...

If you`re having dilemma`s about your PC setup ... Get a decent Video card with S-Video Out, and a 5.1 card inside your PC .. then You`ll be able to play you`re Multi region discs on that 28incher ...Remember it`s not size but what you do with it that counts .. Mine`s massive .. but I only use it at 50% of it`s capacity :-)

Seriously though the main thing you have to watch with outputting the DVD signal from the puter is the wide-screen mode .. Which is dependant on the resolution you`re running in ...

I know when I turn TV Power on on my radeon it then give`s me a brand new choice of resolution in the display properties ... and this is quite quite confusing ...

You mention"buy a R1 player...

can one use R1 players bought in the US for playing back to UK or Continental TVs? that is TVs that are not NTSC format??

The voltage problem can be overcome by using a transfo.
