Page 1 of JMB DVD-3000 Multi Region Hack

Hi,

my brother-in-law has a JMB DVD-3000. A multi region hack is available from this site. 2 Questions:

a) is it easy to revert to the factory setting of region 2 only - I don`t want to encourage him to do something that isn`t reversible, i.e. is this a safe hack that won`t invalidate his guarantee or warantee.

b) how good is this machine at playing Region 1 and 2 under the mult region hack - main reference is to Terminator 2 Ultimate DVD, but also in general.

I`ve just bought a JMB3000 DVD player. I`ve tried the hack and it isn`t a problem setting it back to region 2, you just go into the region settings and change it back from free to 2 thats it.

I`ve posted a question though, because I borrowed "Romeo Must Die" Region 1 off a mate. It works but the picture is black & white and the picture quality isn`t as good. I`ve heard this could be down to the Television settings or the DVD settings being set to PAL instead of Auto.

I know my Wharfedale 750 is in AUTO mode and plays back NTSC (REgion 1) and PAL (region 2) fine. I understand that an NTSC disc played and the DVD player trying to output it in PAL gives the results you talk about. I assume there is a setting to switch it to AUTO. I also think you get similar results if the DVD player ouputs an NTSC signal and your TV can`t cope with it, but I think most modern sets can.

Let me know via here how you resolve in case my brother-in-law has the same problems.

I hope to visit my brother-in-law tonight and try out T2 Ultimate Edition on his JMB 3000 - so, do I need to do anything other than adjust the region to "free" or is there a display setting to change ?

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a switch on the back of the DVD player, bottom right hand corner it will be set to video change it to RGB. If your television supports this then it will be fine. If your T.V doesen`t you won`t get a picture. But no dammage will be done. It tells you all thisin your DVD manual you get with it.

I`ve tried a region 2 DVD with the settings and it works fine.

Finally crack it!

RGB gives a better quality anyway, so as long as your TV and connection (i.e. SCART) support it then you should use this, this is the default setting on my Wharfedale 750 - for this machine you set it on the setup menu not physically on the machine like yours.
