Aiwa XD-DV170 hack required

jazyuk (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th February 2001, 10:09

Hello fellow enthusiasts,

I have just purchased one of those little Aiwa units for when I am on the road. The trouble is that after finding the price of the US DVD`s I am a little p***ed off with the UK prices. Is there anyone out there who knows of a remote hack for this unit or a company that is producing compatible patch kits........yours hopefully,

Jazy....

After posting this message I managed to find a German site with a possible CODEFREE setting. I printed this info. off and managed to decifer what it said, but upon getting home and trying it, it doesn`t work. Please, please has anyone got any pointers and why is there no information on Aiwa DVD`s anyway ?

I have just tried the hack for the awia 370 and it worked on my 170! I did everything by the remote but I had the top loading door open and did it twice, nothing showed on the display but it now works (up to now), the only problem I have is the picture is in black and white on reg 1 but I think that is my portable t.v is not ntsc compatable as it is still colour on reg 2

How did you hack 170

someone has reported on the guestbook of my site that the 370 hack worked on the 170 too!!

The black and white will be an NTSC compatibility issue, but check for a "Pal/NTSC" switch or "Pseudo Pal" in the menu settings..it might help.

The person who wrote in your guest book and the person here are one and the same, there is a real shortage of good material about Aiwa players etc. etc. I will give this hack another go over the weekend when I receive my region one disk, later,

Here`s an idea guys....try the "Firmware" hack and see what gets reported.

Just in case the 170 has he same results as the 3200, ie: more than 1 firmware version.

If this is the case, it may be possible to get a flash update sorted, thus allowing the hack to enter.

On another point...can anyone with a 170 report as to whether an NTSC/PAL switch is fitted on the player?

Jimbo, the switch is on the back of the unit !

I am interested in more details about checking the firmware, where do I look and what information is there out there?
