OPEN SETUP 8888 >>l new menu comes up called VERSION go down to it and press PLAY amend region code to 0 using < and > cursor keys SETUP CLOSE

You must press the >>l (next chapter) key after the 8888 sequence - a new menu option will appear at the bottom of the SETUP menu called VERSION.

Heh heh - a firmware glitch that actually benefits people.
For the uninitiated, with your VCR tuned to whichever SCART socket the DVD5000 is connected to, and so that you can see the Compacks logo on-screen, press the MODE button until RGB is displayed : MV is now off :)
