No idea but why not try the 709 hack at www.709online.co.uk? If it works there are a lot o people over at uk.media.dvd that would be VERY interested!

Does the hack work for the DVD-511? Samsung now has the new models of dvds out. The DVD-511, DVD-611, DVD-711, DVD-612 and the DVD-812. Could you please let me know?

Yes the old hack does work. However, macrovision is not disabled and I can`t make the hack permanent!

Do you mean that you can`t make the hack permanent on the region code? Did you try all the versions of the Samsung 709 hack?
Please let me know if this works because I would also like to buy a Sumsung dvd player?

Yep. Thats right. Turning the player off loses the hack. I`ve tried all the variations of making the hack permanent (from 709online)......but to no avail.
I`ve also mailed multiregionmagic.co.uk, and they know of no permanent solution as yet!
NOTE:The Samsung cannot play CD-R either!

It probably can play CD-RW. If you can exchangeit. Try the Samsung DVD-711. It has a dual laser pickup so that it can play CDR. The 511 has only one laser inside the unit.

Please could you explain how to specifically hack the samsung 511 for multi-region as I used my aiwa remote on it and it opened the tray but it didnt say anything about altering the regions! It just gave a funny code e.g ... co 25 02? Any feedback would be most grateful

Mat_UK - What model of the Samsung do you have?
I was looking into buying the 511, but I definetly need to know whether it is multi-region hackable from the remote.
I am not bothered about re-entering the hack everytime I want to watch Region 1 discs as I only have a couple compared with a larger collection of Region 2.
