Page 1 of I`ve cracked the JVC - THA5R - I`m a legend!

I`ve just found a way to change the code of the JVC - THA5R. As far as I can tell, you can set it to any region you like, but not region `0`, i..e multi region. For example, if you buy the DVD in the UK it ships with region 2 as default. You change this to region 1, however, you then can`t play region 2 discs, but, you can set it back. So, you need to perform this simple hack every time you go from watching a specific region to another.

I used Disc 2 (Region 1) of The Doors Special Edition in my lounge for hours, playing about. This is what I did.

1) Insert region 1 disc - you get region err - but, this tells the player which region DVD you wanted to play.

2) Eject the DVD, take the DVD of the tray and close it.

3) Hold down, on the front panel of the player, the "Stop" button until intital is displayed both on-screen and on the player panel.

4) Whilst initial is displayed, press the open button on the player, be quick

5) Re-insert the DVD and close the drawer - BINGO!

It worked for me - so it should work for you!

The player forgets when you put it into standby and switches back to R" - so, you have to repeat the process on booting the player up. Not as good - but hey - considering there wasn`t a hack for it anywhere on the net - I`ve done good!

that`s the factory reset , after doing this reset the player will play ANY disc but when you eject it the player is region coded again , of course the downside of having to do this everytime is that you loose all of your settings

What do you mean DOORS aware? I am far more DOORS aware than your good-self. How many times have you been to Pere La Chaise in Paris? Incase you were wondering, that`s where Jim Morriosn is buried, supposedly. As to whether Jim Morrison is relaly dead, I would say yes, as there is a three year gap between Jim dieing and then Pam dieing, I don`t think Pam would have been away from Jim that long in order to keep up the act. Quick question to the god who cracked the tha5r hahahha..... when you say it resets when back in standby mode do you mean it resets back to the standard region 2 settings? i only have a few region 1 disks that i wanna view so it`s cool if it can be changed when i wanna watch them but i just wanna check that when you say it resets does it just go totally back to standard region 2 `comet superstore stylee`? hehahhhh, i`m not in the know about dvd players too much and only had it a month so before i try the hack i just wanted to check so i don`t muck it up at all, cheers, Steve.

Yeah, when it goes back to standby, it reverts to region 2.

So if you hack it, play region 1, and then want to play region 2, you have to turn off and turn back on to go back to r2. I have just found out that the hack only works for R1 discs and not all regions as I first thought.

Ok i have tried everything you said and have been quick but my dvd player shuts off before the tray even closes and that is without the tray being opened fully. HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This player looks like a Samsung HT-DL.Have you tried this Samsung HT-DL100 hack?
Turn power on without a disc in the tray
Press enter
Press 8,4,2,6,9
Press enter
Tray should open
Machine is now REGION FREE
