Andy J Frankum (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 8th October 2002, 19:06

Does anyone know off a hack for the hitachi dvp305 to play cdr disks
as i have found out that the hitachi dvd player as got the capability of reading cdr`s .

I just wondered if I could play vcd`s on this dvd player as it does state
videocd emblem on the player.

Or am I being misled?

You`ve been misled I`m afraid - the Hitachi DV-P305 (which is a re-badged Samsung 511) does *not* have the capability to read most CD-Rs reliably. See this thread for a bit more discussion if you`re interested...

In a nutshell, it`s a hardware limitation, not something you can get around with a hack.

You can play VCDs on this player, but only pressed (factory-made) ones, not those burned onto CD-R.

Thanks Mike for the info
I thought might be the case.

I also have a alba dvd108 with a awkward hack to play vcd`s until someone can figure out what the permanent hack is then I might consider buying a dvd player that plays everything.
Thanks
Andy
